At the end of the 2009 Season while packing Batfish 3 up for handing over to her new owner. Tris was ‘kidnapped’ by Paul Heyes and Bob Lancaster and told he was going to meet his new owner.
With that Tris met and started to work for Neil Kipling on his new J-122 Joopster. The program’s objectives where simple.
Neil wanted to win class in the RORC Offshore Championship , finish in the top 20 overall in the Fastnet and do a top Inshore Program. Neil gave Tris five seasons to achieve all of that. It actually only took three.
2010 was by design a light season, a chance to get used to the boat and see how many of Neil’s old crew were up for a more intense race program. That said 2010 was a successful year:
1st Class 1 RORC De Guinard Bowl 2010
2nd Class 1 RORC Myth of Malham 2010
2nd Class 1 RORC Channel Race 2010
2nd Overall RORC Channel Race 2010
3rd Class 1 & 2 Handed RORC Cherbourg Race 2010
2011 was a Fastnet year the biggest years for RORC races, Class two was by far the most competitive class that year, with 5 boats, Joopster, La Reponse, Quokka, Scarlet Oyster and Arabella (The works J-111) all vying for the top spot. The boats battled tooth and nail all year, sharing race results and ultimately the result was decided on the last race of the year. Joopster prevailed, but it was a hard fought year.
